Creating A Simple Discord Bot

A while back, I noticed that a lot of the memes sent in the #memes channel were from Reddit, specifically r/ProgrammerHumor. Since I was bored, I wanted to make a bot that takes the top posts from that subreddit and post them in the Discord channel.

Alfred Workflow for My Website

Whenever I want to add content to my website, I have to do a few things:

  1. Open terminal, navigate to the website directory, and start the Hugo server
  2. Open the website directory in Finder
  3. Open the markdown file for my post with Typora

Never Gonna Give- Wait, What?

Ah yes, the obligatory monthly post. Even though my posting schedule is inconsistent, I’m never gonna give it up… just like how Rick Astley’s never gonna give you up.

Rickrolling is one of my favorite internet trolls because of its simplicity and success rate. People get “rick rolled” when “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley is played unexpectedly, whether it’s through a disguised link or an unrelated video that cuts to the song.

Pendulums in Blender

Creating the pendulums

I followed this tutorial by Polyfjord to create the simulation. It’s pretty straight forward and easy to follow, and I changed a few of the values to be better for my video. The main thing I modified was the pendulum frequency such that a full cycle for all ten pendulums was under a minute.

Challenging Space to a Basketball 1v1

The subreddit r/TheyDidTheMath has a bunch of useless math calculations for real world “applications.” It’s quite similar to Fermi Questions, my favorite Science Olympiad event. Last night, I saw an xkcd that made me want to check it’s math.

Status Update 6-26

Wow, no blog post in a week? What’s been going on? Well, not a lot. But also quite a bit. This is going to be less of a “normal blog post” and more of a “here’s a random list of things I did.” I’m also going to be trying out the Table of Contents, which should appear to the right above the menu.

Valorant Cypher Spots that I Actually Use

With the release of Valorant, more people and more of my friends are playing the game. I wanted to create a mini Cypher “guide” that showcases all of the spots that I regularly use. Of course, there are more spots than shown in the video, but the video is for the practical spots.

Using Hugo and Netlify for My Website

After I published my previous blog post, I sent it to my friend. He responded by sending me his first blog post, which was similar to my first. In his post, he outlined the process of setting up his website with Hexo and Netlify, which was possible because it was a static site.

How Precise Do Numbers Have to Be?

Last night (technically this morning at like 4 am), I randomly thought about this tweet I saw a day ago: Hi, Twitter. This is the magic of an 84" softbox. pic.twitter.com/VP5GOgSQI9 — Jackson Hayes (@jacksonhvisuals) June 11, 2020 I thought back to when I shot a video in my room and got a similar lighting effect as that.

Using Wordpress for the First Time

I’ve always wanted to start a blog and just write about things that I want to write about. However, the website builder that I was previously using (Adobe Portfolio) had nothing for blogs, so it never happened. Last night (technically this morning), I was thinking of some cool stuff that I could write about, and I decided that I would create one with WordPress. I woke up, instantly got on my computer, and started making this.
